The Christmas 2009 show saw the line up braden even more and was a real success. All proceeds from the event go to LOROS. A compilation cd was produced for the Summer 09 and Christmas 09 events which you can get from here. I encourage you to buy the White Noise Two comp as it is great (Death of London's Kiri Kiri is a short sharp masterpiece) and the money you pay will go to charity. Do it.

Pacific Ocean Fire - my good friends POF called it a day this year. I've known them all for a long time and in the last year and a half had become kind of a part time member (that's how I like to think about it!) so the oppurtunity of wigging out with them dissapearing saddens me no end. I am very proud to have contributed to their final work Hibernation Songs and recommend you check the Biily-O out of it.

There was also the tape - did I mention that?

Plans are afoot for 2010 - going to try and record the full version of 'Spring' (aka the birdy song) in the early part of the year to hopefully release March-ish time. There is still talk of a film of sorts and also the possibilty of a one off audio-visual collaboration in the summer, which if it goes ahead will be both nerve wracking and amazing.

Merry Christmas, my loves.

White Noise Christmas stage times

This friday 4th December - sleigh bells at the ready!

8:00 - LOGFOX
8:45 - PETER WYETH
9:30 - HER NAME IS CALLA
10:30 - KYTE
11:30 - RIVAL CONSOLES
00:00 - ROCKYS ONE THROUGH BALBOA / BOY KID CLOUD DJ SETS (Minnaars / These Furrows)

Should be a great night and all proceeds go to LOROS.

http://www.whitenoisefestival.com/

Some bikes

Here's some really nicely shot footage of some people mucking around on bikes.

Trackstanding in the City is a three day festival in my home town of Leicester. It's a great turn with a wide mix of bands split over four stages as well as a comedy tent, the Phrased and Confused tent and other festival jollity. It has a wonderful atmosphere and it's small size is much of it's appeal. I've been to a few and I've always enjoyed them. Apart from getting to do a couple of songs on The Musician stage a few years ago, I've never played (insert shoulder shrugging image here) but this year I got asked to be involved with the Fringe festival events.

The SSW fringe festival used to be a one night warm up party the night before the festival began a proper. This year it was a fortnight long program of events including two photo exhibtions. I was asked to play the launch night at the LCB Depot and one the Fringe warm up night gigs on the thursday before SSW kicks off.

I enjoyed every nerve racking minute of it. The LCB depot gig saw me turn out 27 minute run of 'Spring' replete with some new field recordings. I got to play with Pacific Ocean Fire afterwards as well (and they are soooo good at the minute). On the thursday I played at the New Road Inn with POF again and the Falling Leaves and managed to completely go off on one. The Fringe events all raise money for LOROS too, so as well as loads of ace gigs happening around the city on one night all the people who come to see the acts play are helping others.

Below are a couple of photos capturing my grey haired mastery of singing birds and glockenspiels and something really nice that was written about me in the Firebug guide to the festival (thank you!!!). There shall be another post about the cassette soon as I have them in my possession. Ta!

Photos are by the lovely Jennifer Anne Simpson.

Free EP

The cassette obsessed lovelies that are make recordings have an EP featuring the artists they are working with available for download here. This was a partcular pisser for friday with maybeshewill, Calla and ASIWYFA all playing that night.

So sunday it was. Arrived feeling dreadfully nervous and watched in horror as my hands shook uncontrollably trying to make the harmonics to 'Spring' but got there in the end and enjoyed myself. Made some new friends, met up with some old ones. Went all red and embarrassed at some of the wonderful comments about my work. Did an odd interview with Demon fm - odd as in answering questions about my influences at my age seems strange. Got to watch Theo (the man has skills), Misterlee (I will one day write a blog stang many of the things I love about this pair) and the mighty Death of London who were, quite frankly, fantastic. Very thought provoking. The words written about it give it a modern feel. I look at the art and think of many, many questions about how we live our modern lives, how we relate to others. For all the poignancy of the imagery though, the photos to show a piece of artwork asking questions of ourselves and yet all we see is life passng by it, onwards to wherever - work?
It also makes me think about the idea of ephemerality in art work and how this applies to music making. Or maybe should apply to music making.

A simple joy

Cycling into work on monday, going up the final slope. Out of a tree comes a woodpecker. The black and white and pinkish red. Short bursts of bouncing flight, up and down for about 30 yards in front of me. type='text'>Hearing test / Biog blues

Tuesday. Hearing test at the Infirmary. Work through lunch (we are stacked out at the minute), cycle home to catch bus. See two Jays hopping from tree to tree, trying to escape me. Amazing. Never seen one before . Wonderful, wonderful. Female greenfinch on the powerlines. Looks like a budgie it's that yellow. Post slow time home - wind resistance? Get changed, catch bus, read book. Stare out of window. The shrine on Aylestone road. Top deck empty until teacher and students get on - " I was a bit dissapointed" she says "it wasn't very cohesive". Wonder what they could be talking about. Blossom blown off the trees, floats in the air, bobs up and down, floating against the window like some insect trying to butt it's way in.

Alight and walk to the hospital.

Take a photo of the car parking zone sign for the city.
Get given that look people give you when one does anything like this - " what on Earth is he doing?"

Into the ENT clinic. The waiting room is rammed. There are about 300,000 peple in Leicester/shire, how many people at this point are in this hospital? How many of us are ill? I get 'the look' again - maybe it's the shorts? Called in for test. Not particularly closed headphones mean I hear the technician pressing the button to start each sound!! Hear most of it. Cranial hearing test goes well too. Then it's the cranial and white noise test which is just plain odd. Into waiting room again. More looks - I feel so middle class in here, "I from Beaumont Leys!! Peasant stock! It's ok!!" But it's not. It really is not. Into the consulatant. "You have Obscure-Auditory-Something-or-Other" he says. "The ear is a noisy place". Feel much better, he was a lovely man, I thank him and his assistant and skip out through the waiting room- yep, skipping, you buggers!.

Off out of the hospital to catch a random bus home and get cauliflower for veggie curry. Continue reading book. Put down as I can't read with the girl sitting on her own across the whole back seat of the top deck listening to some "urban music" (tm Radio1Xtra). Gets off. Buys food. Takes photos of blossom - I never get bored of the beauty of it, the wonderful colour.

Eat banana. Get 'the look' again. Particularly off the 6th formers leaving college.Have wonderful tea. Sit down and stare at pc for 1 hour and 45 minutes trying to think up of biog. Writing in the third person is sooooooooooooooooooooooo crap. Finally settle on the bit below.

Peter Wyeth is a Leicestershire born and raised musician/artist who uses anything at his disposal to create songs and audio work that speak of the wonder of the world around him. Acoustic guitars and upside down tunings. Minidiscs and looper pedals. Singing birds and glockenspiels.Riding bikes and early mornings. Starry nights and radio static. Whatever it takes to bring the inside out and the outside in. His live shows are semi improvised sets of songs built around delicate walls of looped sighs and strumming. Drowned in Sound has described him as being "knee deep in looped acoustic guitar" . His EP 'safe, sweet, happy journeys' is to be released on cassette and digital download on the Make Recordings (http://www.makerecordings.com) in May.

Is it ok??

Am listening to Mo's cd. It is good.

Am reading 'Nigh-No-Place' by Jen Hadfield. Favourite line so far - 'winch them tenderly down the twinkling fathoms'

Product is done. Have just recorded an extra bit. Will mix at weekend if i can be arsed - i don't like mixing.
